DrômeCamping Les Chapelains is situated in the Vallée de la Drôme, on the banks of the river Drôme. We find ourselves at the foot of an area of scenic beauty, the Vercors, which offers a diversity of extraordinary plants (many sorts of orchids) and animals. Surrounded by the high peaks such as the dominant Trois Becs, you find yourself in a charming valley with fields of lavender and vineyards. Sheltered from the mistral a pleasant micro-climate reigns.

The Parc Naturel Régional du Vercors consists of 150.000 ha of protected nature. The park stretches out across the departments Drôme and Isère. Vercors Mont AigullesThe Vercors is a typical area in many ways. It is a kind of high oval cake in the surrounding landscape. Many years ago this area could only be reached via difficult accessible passes. This is the reason why the Vercors was a place of refuge for resistance fighters during the Second World War.

Four large monuments remind us of this and strong feelings concerning this are still present. The mountain range, mainly consisting of limestone, belongs to the pre alps.

The Vercors is the region where the alps and the Provence meet. Every route is a tourist attraction in its own right: the Petit Goulets, the Grands Goulets, Combe Laval, but also the Col de Rousset, which is often featured in the Tour de France. It characterizes itself by a great variety of plateaus, vast forests and more than 65 species of orchids. It is a habitat for 135 different species of birds and 65 sorts of mammals including almost all species of deer. Explore this region by car or motorbike, but definitely also by foot, bicycle or mountain bike.

Fishing enthusiasts are spoilt by the rivers Drôme, Gervanne, Roanne, Brette and the Sure. There is also fishing water nearby Crest and Cornillon.
